Descriptive survey research design was employed; both quantitative and qualitative data were gathered through questionnaire, interviews and focus group discussin. The IFAL centers were selected using stratified random sampling.The facilitators and Gumuz women learners were selected using simple random sampling techniques. The IFAL coordinators, school cluster supervisors and FGD members are selected purposivelly. The questionnaires were filled by 122 Gumuz adult women learners and 28 facilitators. In addition, Six (6) IFAL program coordinators and two school cluster supervisors were interviewed and 14 FGD participants were employed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.The result of the study indicated that Gumuz women’s participation was mainly a result of outside pressure rather than their own interest,lack of encouragement from the concerned local government,the enrollement of women was low,the rate of dropout was high and completion rate of the program was low. Based on this result, the study recommended that serious attention has to be given to employ various planned community awareness programs and allocating adequate budget to promote better Gumuz women education and providing of adequate facilities to the IFAL centers so as to improve Gumuz women education and overall effectiveness of the IFAL program in Mandura Wereda, Metekel Zone, Benishangul Region are among measures to be taken.Key words: Integrated Functional Adult Education, Gumuz women learning, Benishangul GumuzenIntegrated Functional Adult EducationGumuz women learningBenishangul GumuzParticipation of Gumuz Women in Integrated Functional Adult Literacy: The Case of Mandura WoredaThesis
