Despite increasing demand for counseling services in Ethiopia, little is known about burnout among counseling psychologists. This study examined the prevalence and predictors of burnout among counseling psychologists in Addis Ababa. A quantitative cross-sectional correlational design was employed. Data were collected from 300 counseling psychologists using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), and measures of job demands and organizational support. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted using SPSS version 25. The findings revealed moderate levels of burnout among participants, with emotional exhaustion emerging as the most prominent dimension (M = 3.10, SD = 1.02). Job demands were positively associated with emotional exhaustion (r = .48, p < .01) and depersonalization (r = .32, p < .05), whereas organizational support showed significant negative relationships with emotional exhaustion (r = -.41, p < .01) and depersonalization (r = -.36, p < .05). Multiple regression analysis indicated that job demands were the strongest predictor of emotional exhaustion (β = .52, t = 4.81, p < .001), while organizational support significantly predicted lower emotional exhaustion (β = -.31, t = -3.12, p = .003). The model explained 42% of the variance in emotional exhaustion (R² = .42). Organizational support was also the strongest predictor of depersonalization (β = -.38, t = -3.45, p = .001). The study concludes that burnout is a significant concern among counseling psychologists in Addis Ababa, primarily influenced by high job demands and inadequate organizational support. The findings highlight the need for organizational interventions aimed at workload management, improved supervision, and enhanced institutional support systems to reduce burnout and promote professional well-being.
