Available text retrieval software are over viewed and compared with Kicro CDS/ISIS version 2.3., CDS/ISIS is found to be the best text retrieval software for which Amharic version can be developed . Therefore, an Amharic version of the Micro CDS/ISIS was developed and tested. This version can perform all functions that the English version does and can be used for developing information storage and retrieval systems in Amharic and containing Amharic databases .
