|Abstract:||This study is focused on assessment of farmer’s knowledge, attitude and practice towards deforestation in Atsbi Wemberta wereda Tigray regional state. It was a descriptive type of study that utilizes survey method. In the study 192 sample respondents were selected using proportional stratified random sampling method. Data was gathered using a set of questionnaire consisted of three sections (part one, knowledge test 25 questions, part two attitude inventory 20 questions and practice scale 10 statements). Data analysis was made by using frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test and correlation coefficient. For variables of the study, comparisons were made in terms of gender, place of residence and academic status. The findings of the study illustrated that farmers’ environmental knowledge and attitude is fair but generally poor in environmental practices with their level of knowledge and attitude. Concerning educational status there is no significant difference in their environmental knowledge and attitude. Males and rural farmers’ were more knowledgeable about deforestation than female and urban farmers. The relationship among farmers’ environmental knowledge, attitude and practices were found to be weak. As the global land sat information give that the forest cover was decrease from 16417.64 hectare in 1986 to 10716.88 in 2014.Giving priority attention for females’ farmers to be participated in local community affairs, indecision making process and socio-economic plans.
