|Abstract:||The quality of imported and exported products has a great significance on the economical growth of the country. The quality of the imported and exported products is important for protection the society health, environmental degradations, safety, competitiveness, productivity improvement, increases profit and to protect the economical loss of the country. There is high quality cost of both import and export products in Ethiopia. Measuring cost of quality at organizational level or national level is very important to improve quality and productivity of products and services. Measuring and Managing the cost of quality is started from each individual and extended to the national level. The Crosby model that used to measure quality cost at organizational level can be used to measure quality cost at national level with a little modification. The data used for the measurement of the national import-export products quality cost was collected from the following organizations such as QSAE, ESA,ECAE, MoT, MoI, MoA, FMHACA for the past five years (from 2001 to 2005 EC). It was estimated that the national import-export products quality cost of Ethiopia is about 30% of the total sales in import export sectors. The efforts and the limitation of the current system that used to control or reduced the national quality cost in import-export sectors reviewed to propose the solution to reduce the quality cost at the national level or to minimize the national quality cost. The current systems that used to control or reduce the quality cost at the national level for both import and export products have high limitation to solve quality problems of those products in these specified sectors (import- export sectors) The national quality improvement or the national quality cost reduction solution has been developed in eight(8) groups such as enhancing the commitment of the policy makers of the country, providing awareness to the society and the stake holders the benefits of quality products and the way they identify and select quality products in the markets, strengthen the National Quality Infrastructure Organization, establishing the consultant firms that provide in the implementation of NQI programmes or strategies, strengthen the regulatory bodies, establishing the system to regulate the companies to their quality requirements, enhancing the role of sectors and professional association, strengthening the role of consumer association in the controlling of product quality.|
