dc.description.abstract Women are widely acknowledged to play a critical role in household well-being and national economic development. Women's role, on the other hand, is hampered by their low status in many developing countries. Women empowerment is also the foundation for changing lives in the home and in society as a whole. In this regard, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of social entrepreneurship on women empowerment. It attempted to explore and identify the benefits of pursuing the practice in bringing long-term solutions to the country's many societal issues related to women empowerment. Furthermore, the study modelled three pioneering local enterprises in Addis Ababa to investigate the nature and delivery of social services, women's empowerment mechanisms, as well as the innovative structure and business model of social enterprises. 32 interviews were done during the study’s field work. The qualitative research method was used to answer the basic research questions, and the necessary data was gathered through Key Informant Interviews, Focus Group Discussions, Individual Case Studies, and Systematic Observation. The collected data were analyzed using a qualitative data analysis approach. Despite the country's favorable legal policy framework, the study found that social enterprises in Ethiopia are benefiting underprivileged women by providing them with a sustainable income to support themselves and their families, as well as assisting them in becoming self-reliant and self-confident through various trainings. Recommendations are followed. Key words: Women Empowerment, Social Entrepreneurship, Social Enterprises en_US
