Abstract: This stuay examined the quality in early childhood education in Addis Ababa. It is a descriptive survey research, which aimed at assessing the quality of early childhood care and education in 15 randomly selected EC CE 's in Kirkos and Bole Sub cities. Data were Collected using 11-item structured and semi-structured questionnaire items administered on 50 parents, 23 structured and semi-structured questionnaire administered on 39 teachers, 2 F GDs in the respective sub cities consisting of teachers, principals, ECCE experts and parents. Quantitative detail obtained through structured questionnaire data were analyzed using means and percentages. Whereas, semi-structured questions were analyzed by thematic analysis. F indings showed that, overall, the quality of early childhood education is below standard. Physical environment and teaching materials were below the expected level. This was found to be due to low budget allocated for ECCE. Despite the fact that, teachers, based on the training given, strive to improve the teaching material by using their rich experiences from the locally available material on a daily basis. This is found to be encouraging. The qualities of academic stajf in terms of quality training was found to be inadequate and require continuous training. Teachers should be adequateb» assessed during the training and high standard should be maintained. Parent involvement in school 's management was also found to be low. Recommendatíons were made towards achieving quality early childhood care and education.
