|Abstract:||Past studios among Ethiopian trochees had found that they were dissatisfied with many aspect of their job conditions and problems of meeting their personal needs. Susi dissatisfy- faction can have negative effect on their motivation to vad; Actually, ERGES had found that the motivatíonal level of the teacher: was low. , . The prosent study is aimed at identifying the factor that affect the motivation of the Ethiopian Secondary School tqachers to work hard, and finding out the effect of the practice of selecting and awarding the "best teachers" of the yáoy on the motivation of these teachers to work hard as perceived by the teachers and the educational admins- traitors. It covered central and Eastern Ethiopia. The study found that according to the respondents is these geographic regions. Most of the factors in their job conditions and personal life are not motivating the Ethiopian Secondary school teachers to work hard. There are notable differences among the various subgroups of the Ethiopian Secondary school Rochester in terms of the factors that motivate them to work hard or demotivate them from working hard. There are notable differences between the factors thát motivate or demotivate the Ethíopian Secondary school teachers and those percoived by the educational administrators as mot vating or demotivating factors to these teachars. The practice of selecting and awarding the "best teachod era" of the year is not effective in motivating the Ethiopian secondary school teacher: to work hard as perceived by both the teachers and thb educational administrators.
