| Abstract: | Antiretroviral Treatment (ART), although not a cure, can help people from becoming ill for
many years and this has improved the survival of HIV patients. In Ethiopia about 55,000
people and globally more than 1.3 million people have been taking ART until the end of
2006. Scaling up of ART treatment is planned by WHO and the Ministry of Health of the
Ethiopian Government. Although ART treatment has decreased HIV associated mortality and
morbidity, a number of patients still die after the start of ART. A total of 213 child patients
have been considered from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital ART clinic for the study. The
analysis of the data using the binary logistic regression shows that AZT associated anemia,
d4T associated peripheral neuropathy and NVP associated skin rash have influence on the
survival of child patients. i.e. Child HIV patients under ART follow up has developed AZT
associated anemia, D4T peripheral neuropathy and NVP associated skin rash. The study
shows that adverse drug reaction has relation with Base Line Weight, Base Line CD4 Counts,
WHO clinical stage, ART regimen and age |
