| Abstract: | The major objective of this study is to assess the implementation of EE awareness policy
and identify factors affecting awareness level of both teachers and students. Taking the
list of students as a sampling frame, a total of 170 students were randomly selected from
grades 9 and 10. Besides, a total of 44 teachers were interviewed. Results suggest that not
only do teachers lack training on EE awareness policy, students also do not have
sufficient knowledge about EE. Equally importantly, there was weak linkage among
stakeholders in the study area as far as environmental education is concerned. As a
pointer for future endeavors, since policy implementation requires strong cooperation
among various stakeholders, linkage must be created from the higher authorities up to the
local stakeholders. Therefore, EE-awareness policy should be treated as one of the cross-
sectorial policies in the environment policy by integrating EE awareness policy into
school subjects at different level of education. |
