Abstract: First of all I would like to express my thanks to the Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ with whom I reached this stage and become successful. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my advisors Professor Beyene Petros and Dr. Tekola Endeshaw for their unreserved effort in advising me to conduct my research on this topic and providing me valuable information and reference materials as well as continuous follow up of my work to enrich my knowledge and skill in conducting this research. My sincere appreciation is also extended to the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute (EHNRI) for the provision of laboratory facilities and Nekemte Education Bureau for sponsoring my graduate studies. I would like to extend my thanks to my friend Dr.Sileshi Nemomssa for his support in printing the necessary research materials for the thesis. Nekemte hospital and the respective collaborating physicians and laboratory technicians, OSSA (Organization for Social Service for AIDS) Nekemte branch are also greatly acknowledged for helping and facilitating in the collection of samples and field observations.
