Abstract: Nowadays the present generation is forgetting the tool of their literary heritage, which is our language. However, in order to avoid the harbinger of our heritage two best Amharic lexicographers ደስታ ተክለ ወልድ Desta Tekle Welde and ተሰማ ሀብተ ሚካኤል/ ከሳቴ ብርሃን ተሰማ Tessema Habte Mikael/ Kesate Birhan Tessema have in their own time contributed two monumental dictionaries. These dictionaries have contributed both for the preservation and enrichment of Amharic language. The paper then tries to reflect on how these groundbreaking Ethiopian Amharic-Amharic dictionaries have contributed, both for preserving and enriching Amharic language, and on how these people turned out to be preservers and augmenters of literary heritage par excellence for the present generation.
